Supportive Housing Options for PHP & IOP Clients

A fully-integrated residential option available only to clients enrolled in our PHP or IOP programs.

A Residential Option That Works With Treatment — Not After It

Supportive Housing at The Blanchard Institute is a structured, gender-specific residential environment designed to help clients build stability, consistency, and healthy daily rhythms while they are actively participating in treatment. This is not a sober living home, halfway house, or post-treatment residence. Supportive Housing is an extended offering that enhances outcomes for clients who need additional stability during the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Clients live in a home-like environment, receive transportation to and from programming, and stay connected to our full clinical team every day. This model bridges the gap between traditional outpatient treatment and residential-level structure giving clients accountability, community, and continuity of care.

How Supportive Housing Works

Integrated Care, Not Standalone Housing

Supportive Housing is available only to individuals enrolled in PHP or IOP. There are no housing-only clients, and stays are tied directly to program engagement. This ensures:

  • Continuous clinical supervision
  • Consistent therapeutic participation
  • Structured schedules and home routines
  • Alignment between treatment goals and daily environment

Just as important: this model eliminates the isolation often associated with outpatient-only care and the lack of oversight common in traditional sober living environments.

Why Supportive Housing Matters

A Unique Advantage in the Charlotte Treatment Landscape

Many families feel stuck choosing between:

  • Residential treatment (which may feel too intensive or costly), and
  • Outpatient treatment (which may not offer enough structure)

Supportive Housing at The Blanchard Institute offers a third path—residential structure without residential-level costs, combined with evidence-based outpatient treatment.

Unlike independent sober living homes, our model is:

  • Family-centered
  • Gender-specific
  • Designed to improve both completion rates and long-term outcomes

This offering is limited and rarely found in other PHP/IOP programs across the region.

Who Benefits Most From Supportive Housing

Supportive Housing is ideal for:

  • Individuals who need structure, accountability, and stability
  • Families seeking a higher level of monitoring and involvement
  • Clients transitioning from detox or residential programs
  • Community members who lack a safe or recovery-supportive home environment
  • Anyone who needs consistent daily rhythms to stay focused on recovery

This option is especially helpful when families want a program that keeps their loved one connected, supported, and emotionally present throughout treatment.

Gender-Specific Supportive Housing

To maintain safety, comfort, and a therapeutic environment, Supportive Housing is gender-specific.
Today, this includes Supportive Housing for Men (Austin’s House) and Supportive Housing for Women, both within 10 minutes of our South Charlotte location.

Both settings are clinically aligned with our PHP/IOP programming and follow the same structure, expectations, and transportation schedule.

As a family-centered organization, our integrated model gives clients and loved ones more opportunities for progress, connection, and sustainable recovery.

Cost & Insurance

Supportive Housing is an add-on service for individuals enrolled in PHP or IOP.
Because it is integrated with active treatment, it is not a separate level of care, nor is it billed like traditional sober living.

Remembering Austin from Austin’s House

For years, our men’s home was known as Austin’s House, named in honor of Austin who passed away in May 2019 and whose life deeply shaped the heart of this organization.

Austin was a beloved partner, friend, and member of The Blanchard community. His story continues to influence our commitment to providing compassionate, structured, family-centered care for individuals in recovery. Austin’s legacy remains woven into everything we do, especially our dedication to building safe, emotionally supportive environments for clients and families.
